We don't need it. We can't handle it.
Everything seems to be speeding up.
There’s a feeling that you must publish more faster.
You must write more code, faster.
You must make more features, new software, more games, more videos.
If you’re not making new stuff fast enough, you’ll get buried in the flood of content by all the people who are.
That’s the feeling at least.
And I’m starting to hate it.
I felt uneasy about it before, but now I think my body is just outright rejecting it.
It makes me want to walk away from it all completely.
Just stand up from the computer, go take a walk in my back yard and forget that there’s anything but plants, blue skies, physical books, and my wife and kids.
Just purposefully go as slow as possible.
I don’t know if that’s sustainable, but that’s how I feel sometimes.
We were already at a point (before AI) where things were moving too fast. Algorithms demanded more so you could get attention.
Too many interesting-sounding videos were available in one day than you could watch in a week. And not just videos, but all forms of stuff.
There comes a point where we literally just can’t have anymore. TikTok and YT shorts already put us past our limit. New books published, new articles written, new investment methods, new video games, shows, hacks, tips, secrets.
Amazon’s algorithm demanded a new book every 2 weeks to get the bump in sales that authors needed!
2 weeks!
It just kept getting faster and faster, and soon it will probably be every day.
Even at 2 weeks, do you really think that’s realistic for a writer? Can a writer really make a good book that quickly?
No way.
But the algorithms demanded it.
But now with AI, all you hear about is how you can do even more now than before, and that you should or you’ll be left behind.
It’s just too much.
You literally can’t do more.
You can’t create more.
You can’t consume more.
It’ll destroy your happiness if you go down that path.
But here I am writing yet another post. 🤦♂️
The point of this one, though, is to say that you don’t have to do more, make more, consume more.
Take your time, and do one thing well.
Just write one good book.
If all you ever finish writing your whole life is one good book, that will be enough.
You’re not going to be left behind.
You’re not going to be buried in the flood of content.
Well you might, but that metric doesn’t matter for you. Because you’re not doing it just for attention.
You’re doing it for the journey and for what you’re becoming as you’re writing.
And one good book is all you need.
